Murdoko is believed to have embezzled general allocation funds worth Rp 3 billion in 2003 when he was a member of the Semarang City Legislative Council.Semarang, C Java (ANTARA News) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has named Murdoko, chief of the Central Java Provincial Legislative Council (DPRD), a suspect in an alleged embezzlement of the Kendal district`s 2003-2004 budget funds.
"He was named a suspect last week for an alleged abuse of authority that has inflicted financial losses on the state," KPK spokesman Johan Budi stated on Monday (March 26).
Budi said Murdoko, who will serve out his term of office as chief of the Central Java Legislative Council in 2014, has been charged with violating Articles 2 and 3 of Law No. 20/2001 on the amendment to Law No. 31/1999 on Corruption Eradication adj. Article 55 para 1 of the Criminal Code.
The anti-graft body is expected to question Murdoko this week, he confirmed. However, he refused to comment on when Murdoko will be detained.
Murdoko is believed to have embezzled general allocation funds worth Rp 3 billion in 2003 when he was a member of the Semarang City Legislative Council. He obtained the money by borrowing it from former Kendal district head Hendy Boedoro, who is also Murdoko`s older brother.
Murdoko is also suspected of involvement in a graft case regarding the distribution of funds from the Kendal district
administration`s loans worth Rp 900 million in 2003-2004.
Arief Gunawan, Murdoko`s lawyer, said his client has returned the money to Hendry Boedoro who is serving his seven-year jail term at the Kedungpane penitentiary in Semarang.(*)
