Partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Widens Reach to International Level

Jakarta, March 29, 2012, (ANTARA) - PT Bank Danamon Indonesia, Tbk. (Danamon) today launches Danamon Award 2012 and form a partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), a United Nations (UN) organization that focuses on human development. The partnership is marked with the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Danamon and UNDP. Danamon Award is the highest appreciation for ordinary individuals who have shown great achievements that provide inspiration, encourage positive changes, give benefits, and improve the lives of others and their environment. Danamon Award 2012 is the sixth iteration of the program, which was first held in 2006.

”Danamon Award is a concrete form of Danamon’s vision, which is ’we care and enable millions to prosper.’
By partnering with UNDP, the UN’s global development network, Danamon further strengthens its commitment to empower communities and extend its reach to international level,” said Fransiska Oei, Danamon Director.

UNDP is the UN’s global development network, advocating for change and connecting countries to knowledge, experience and resources to help people build a better life. UNDP is on the ground in 176 countries, working with them on their own solutions to global and national development challenges. As they develop local capacity, they draw on the people of UNDP and our wide range of partners.

”We are very proud to be able to partner with Danamon on this Award. The partnership reflects our mutual
desire to recognize the efforts which individuals and groups are making every day to improve their own well being and that of their families and their communities. This is what development is about – it is about helping people to improve their lives and the lives of others around them through ways that are sustainable,” said Beate Trankmann, UN Resident Representative Ad Interim of UNDP.

Meanwhile, Zsa Zsa Yusharyahya, Danamon Award 2012 Committee Chairperson, gives an example on the sustainable nature of the activity through one of the recipients of Danamon Awards 2007, Slamet Riyadi, who empowers senior citizens to continue crafting and contributes to the environment by using wastes from plastics and aluminum foils in his business of producing webbing handicrafts. “After he received the Danamon Award, Slamet Riyadi’s business is more recognized by the public, so his business grows,” said Zsa Zsa Yusharyahya.

The Danamon Award 2012 judging process is initiated in two stages: assessment and verification. Danamon Award 2012 Panel of Juries has outlined four judging criteria, which are motivation, outcome, outreach, and sustainability. The juries will then select five Danamon Award 2012 recipients, and, out of these five, the most favorite Danamon Award 2012 recipient will be voted by members of the public through online and SMS (short messages system) voting. For the first time, the public can also vote trough a social networking site.

As part of Danamon’s commitment to engage the public in Danamon Award, this year’s voting process for
most favorite Danamon Award recipient can be done through Facebook, leveraging on the popularity of social media in Indonesia. As such, the extraordinary achievements of the Danamon Awards 2012 recipients will be widely recognized, not only nationally, but also internationally, through UNDP.

Danamon Award 2012 Panel of Juries consists of Charles Saerang (President Director of PT Nyonya Meneer), Mira Lesmanawati (Film Producer), Toriq Hadad (Head of Corporate News, Tempo Media Group), Imam B. Prasodjo (Faculty of Political and Social Science, University of Indonesia), Ade Swargo Mulyo (Regional Project Manager, South East Asia, SwissContact), Angger Pribadi Wibowo (Head of Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation Unit, UNDP Indonesia), I Wayan Dipta (Deputy VIII – Ministry of Cooperation and Small and Medium Enterprises), and Bonaria Siahaan (Executive Director, Yayasan Danamon Peduli).

The Danamon Award 2012 applications are collected from 28 March 2012 to 20 April 2012. Meanwhile, the
judging process is conducted from 1 May 2012 to 24 May 2012. After the five recipients of Danamon Award 2012 are selected, the most favorite recipient will be selected through public voting that last from 8 June 2012 to 8 July 2012. Meanwhile, the awarding ceremony will be held on 16 July 2012.
