Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Aceh students studying in Jakarta have expressed hope that the simultaneous elections in their native Province would run peacefully.

"We hope the simultaneous elections of governor and deputy governor, district heads and deputy district heads, and mayors and deputy mayors in the province today will run peacefully, safely, and smoothly," Aceh Youngsters and Students Community in Jakarta (Kompa Jaya) spokesman Denni Arie Mahessa said here early Monday.

Denni also expressed the hope that this year's regional elections would yield new leaders who would be able to maintain peace and security in the province during the next five years. "We hope the best for Aceh from the new leaders in this elections," he added.

The regional elections in Aceh are for five pairs of governor/deputy governor posts, 137 pairs of district heads/deputy district heads, and 17 pairs of mayors/deputy mayors.

Since early morning, thousands of people across Aceh province are filing to the polling stations to elect their regional leaders. With family and friends, who have the right to vote, they are packing the polling stations to elect their regional leaders.

ANTARA reports that people in their thousands in the provincial city of Banda Aceh are going to polling stations. The election has been peaceful.

The streets not only in Banda Aceh, but also other cities in the province, were filling up with election fervor since the morning. "Without coercion and intimidation by

any parties, we have come early to the polling station with a clear conscience to elect

our future leaders," said Feri, a voter in Banda Aceh told Antara.

All parties concerned have also expressed the hope that the simultaneous elections in Aceh Province would be peaceful.
