Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Vice chairman of the meeting for the Special Committee on Election bill, I Gede Pasek Suardika, said there remains two options for voting on four crucial decisions on the election bill, namely the package and point options.

"Two options will be offered at a plenary meeting forum to be agreed together, which would be chosen in voting for the four crucial matters," said Gede Pasek Suardika here on Wednesday.

The package option is considered to be more effective in choosing the crucial matters and includes two options, the open or closed proportional systems, Pasek added.

Where the points option is more effective in choosing the more crucial of the two points, the amount of the parliamentary threshold which has been raised to three options.

Different views about the parliamentary threshold are unresolved, where the Golkar faction proposed four percent, and the factions of the Demokrat Party, Prosperous Justice Party, and Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle proposed 3.5 percent.

Five other factions proposed a three percent parliamentary threshold in the meeting, including the factions of the United Development Party, National Mandate Party, National Awakening Party, Gerindra and Hanura.

"The head of the plenary session will offer the package or points option before the vote on the four crucial matters," he said.

Pasek also proposed that the plenary session could use the two options offered to vote on the four crucial matters in the election bill.

Pasek is optimistic about his faction, the Demokrat Party faction, and that their proposals will prevail through a vote.

The four crucial matters disputed in the session are the electoral system, parliamentary threshold, seat allocation in each election area, and the vote counting mechanism for parliamentary seats.(*)
