Jakarta (ANTARA News) - PT Bursa Efek Indonesia (BEI) has officially launched a new IDX30 index which is based on 45 top stocks (LQ45).

"The IDX30 is expected to be used as stock-based investment and a reference for investors to invest in stocks with highest liquidity and largest market capitalization," BEI president director Ito Warsito said here on Monday.

He explained that the calculation basis for the IDX30 - market weighted average - was the same as that of other BEI indexes.

Ito said IDX30 constituents are chosen from stocks that are included in the LQ45 index calculation in the given period.

"Factors to be considered for selecting the IDX30 constituents are transaction activities, including transaction value, frequency, transaction days, and market capitalization," he stated.

"Besides that there are also quantitative criteria," Ito said, adding that in determining the IDX30 components Bursa would also take into account qualitative aspects such as financial condition, growth prospects, and other factors linked to the companys business.

"BEI will review the IDX30 components periodically once in six months in February and August every year. The date for the basis of calculation is December 30, 2004, with the initial index set at 100," he said.

In the future, Ito said he hoped the IDX30 would become the basic reference for capital market products such as mutual funds, exchange traded funds, and other derivative products.
