"Indonesia and Italy have experienced numerous natural disasters in the past. The MoU contains agreements between Indonesia and Italy to exchange information and capacity building in the disaster management area," said Minister Marty Natalegawa.

Meanwhile, Italy`s Foreign Affairs Minister Giulio Terzi di Sant` Agata said cooperation in disaster management is important for both countries because Indonesia and Italy can share their knowledge and strategies in responding to disasters.

Indonesia has experienced numerous disasters, such as earthquakes, landslides and floods during the past years. In 2004, a strong earthquake and tsunami hit Aceh province, killing about 100,000 people. (*)
