"The crowds are creating an impact on the cattle."Bogor, West Java (ANTARA News) - Many cattle in the Animal Embryo Breeding Center at Cipelang, Bogor are reported to have experienced stress due to emergency activities following the crash of the Sukhoi Superjet 100.
"The crowds are creating an impact on the cattle because they have never seen this many humans around them, and it is making the cattle stress out," said the breeding center`s head, Tri Hasni, here on Monday.
Besides creating stress for the cattle, food supplies have also been affected because of the increased traffic around the center.
Since the Sukhoi Superjet 100 jetliner slammed into the dormant volcano at nearly 800 kph (480 mph) during a light rain on Wednesday, May 9, 2012, the center has become one of the area`s evacuation posts.
According to the center`s cattle keeper section head Samsul, the cattle now are being given more feed with additional vitamins added.
"We`re working on making them less stressful. We provide complete vitamins and extra food," he said.
The center is a production center for cattle embryos and serves as a superior embryo seed animal insemination center in Lamongan and Singosari.
According to Samsul, if a cow is stressed it will have an effect on its body weight and resulting embryos.
Samsul said the cattle population at the center can be as high as 315 animals, of which 80 are male cows.
Head of the center, Hasni, added that the embryo center has been located at the foot of Mount Salak since 1999 and is called the Livestock Breeding and Greening Cisarua.
The center`s livestock cages are built on 90 acres of land, located at an altitude of 1200 meters above sea level.
The center is strategically located just below the foot of the mountain and away from the public.
"This location is set deliberately away from the township`s residents," said Tri.
Sukhoi`s evacuation control center was located at the embryo center since the crashed Russian plane was discovered on Thursday, May 10, 2012.
According to Badak Putih 061 Bogor`s military commander, Infantry Colonel AM Putranto, the location was chosen because it is close to the crash site.
