"We won`t wait for one year to present the final report if the data is complete."Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Head of the National Committee of Transportation Safety (KNKT)`s Investigation Field, Masruri, said it would take about 12 months to complete a thorough investigation into the Sukhoi Superjet 100 (SSJ-100) plane crash.
"Based on our investigation procedure, we have to provide factual reports to the authorities within three months, and the final report within 12 months," he stated at the Halim Perdanakusuma air force base here on Monday.
However, the investigation may take less than 12 months.
"We won`t wait for one year to present the final report if the data is complete," Masruri explained.
"If the ill-fated plane`s black box is found, it will be sent to a laboratory. And if it is damaged and cannot be read, it will be sent to the factory producing the VCR-FDR to process the memory," he added.
The Russian-made SSJ-100 with 45 people on board eight Russians, 35 Indonesians, one Frenchman, and one American was on a demonstration flight when it crashed into Mount Salak in Bogor District, West Java, on Wednesday (May 9) afternoon.
On Thursday morning, a SAR team aboard a helicopter spotted the wreckage of the plane on the edge of a cliff at about 5,500 feet (1,650 metres) on Mount Salak.
The evacuation process, however, could not begin before Friday morning because of extreme weather conditions and terrain in the mountainous area. There have been no reports of survivors yet.
The SSJ-100 demonstration flight was part of the Sukhoi Civil Aircraft company's sales promotions, which were conducted in a number of Southeast and Central Asian countries, including Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Myanmar, Laos, and Vietnam.
