"We will continue the evacuation process of the victims."Bogor, West Java (ANTARA News) - The black box of the ill-fated Sukhoi Superjet 100 was sent to Halim Perdanakusuma Airport in Jakarta on Wednesday morning, along with several body bags containing human remains that were evacuated by helicopters in Cijeruk, Bogor.
"The potential black box from Sukhoi Superjet 100 plane has been sent to the Head of the National Search and Rescue agency (Basarnas) this morning at 6 a.m. Indonesian Western Time (WIB) to be investigated," Colonel AM Putranto said in a statement.
A box that resembled the plane`s black box was found on Tuesday morning at around 10 a.m. Indonesian Western Time by the Army`s Special Strike Force and Indonesia`s Rock Climbing Federation, known as Charly (C).
The box was found by Lieutenant Taufik Akbar, the head of the Army`s Special Strike Force.
The box was then evacuated by a team and by 9 p.m. Indonesian Western Time, it had been handed over to the Commander of the Military Resort, Colonel AM Putranto.
The National Transportation Safety Committee was also present when the box was analysed.
The black box was completely burnt, without a trace of the orange colour it originally was. The changed colour was also one of the reasons why the team had difficulties in finding the box.
"An important question to ask is, why is this black box burnt when it was designed to withstand fire and explosions," Putranto said.
He also stated even though the black box had been found, the evacuation process would continue because there were still several body bags full of human remains that needed to be evacuated.
"We will continue the evacuation process of the victims on board the Sukhoi Superjet 100, even though the black box has been found," the Head of the Search Mission Coordinator for the Sukhoi tragedy, Ketut Parwa, told ANTARA News on the phone Wednesday morning.
"We`re still focusing on finding victims of the Sukhoi tragedy and the evacuation process will continue until a decision by the Head of the National Search and Rescue agency is made," Ketut added.
The evacuation process will continue for three more days. If the process is completed by then, the search will continue for another three days.
The Sukhoi Superjet 100 crashed on May 9 after the aircraft disappeared during a demonstration flight at Halim Perdanakusuma Airport in Jakarta.
The debris of the plane was found on a cliff of Mount Salak. No survivors have been found yet.
