Dili, Timor Leste (ANTARA News) - Visiting Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono met with Timor Leste Prime Minister Xanana Gusmao at the "Palacio de Governor" here on Saturday.

The two leaders first held discussions, which continued with a bilateral meeting attended by members of the two countries` delegations.

At the meeting, the delegations discussed cooperation in various fields.

After that, memorandums of understanding in various fields were signed before President Yudhoyono and Xanana.

Meanwhile, Xanana said he appreciated the government and the people of Indonesia for their support and cooperation with Timor Leste.

"I welcome President Yudhoyono and extend my gratitude to the support rendered by the Indonesian Government to us," Xanana said.

President Yudhoyono and Xanana have agreed to build cooperation in the fields of education, diplomacy and economy, as well as trade between the two countries.

According to Xanana, about 7,000 students from Timor Leste are now studying in Indonesia, and this is evidence of the strong relations between the two countries.

During the meeting, President Yudhoyono also was awarded the medal of merit, "The Grand Collar of the Order of Timor-Leste," by President Ramos Horta.

On Saturday afternoon President Yudhoyono is scheduled to visit Santa Cruz cemetery and Seroja heroes cemetery here.

Then on Sunday morning the president will attend the swearing-in of the newly-elected Timor Leste president and attend celebrations marking the 10th anniversary of the country`s independence. (*)
