"The president will deliver an address on the national movement to save electricity."
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono will deliver a speech on the national energy saving movement on Tuesday, said Julian Aldrin Pasha, the president`s spokesman.

"Tomorrow, Tuesday, May 29 evening, at 7:30 pm local time, the president will deliver an address on the national movement to save electricity and fuel energy, and on state revenue increase as well as the budget outlook," Pasha announced here on Monday.

The head of state was earlier scheduled to deliver the speech today (Monday), but it was postponed until Tuesday.

In a limited cabinet meeting held in April 2012, Yudhoyono had declared that he would personally announce the country`s energy efficiency programme.

Following the cancellation of the proposed fuel price hike plan in April, the President outlined three crucial steps that the government needs to take to secure the amended state budget: limit subsidised fuel consumption, increase the state`s revenues and income, and implement budget savings at both national and regional levels.

The planned limitation of subsidised oil consumption has become crucial after the government`s failure to increase fuel prices, since it means that the government will otherwise face a huge deficit in the amended state budget, said the head of state in April.

According to the government`s estimates, if no energy efficiency measure is taken, subsidised fuel consumption may soar to 47 million kilolitres from the ceiling of 40 million kilolitres set in the state budget that has been approved by the House.
