Kuta, Bali (ANTARA News) - The customs and excise officers at Ngurah Rai International Airport have arrested a Ugandan man, Bashir Gadafi Palikoko, for attempting to smuggle one kilogram of crystal methamphetamine into the country, according to an official.

"The 39-year-old driver was carrying drugs after landing from Doha with Qatar Airways," Bali`s Customs and Excise Agency monitoring division head, Made Wijaya, stated here on Monday.

He said the customs and excise officers had suspected Bashir after spotting an unusual oval-shaped object in his stomach.

Made added, after the object was recovered from the suspect`s body in two days, the officers found 66 capsules containing white crystalline substances, which weighed a total of 1,055 grams or 1.055 kilograms.

After that, the officers got the crystals examined in a laboratory, where it was found that the substance was methamphetamine.

In the black market, Made noted, the drug costs approximately Rp2.5 million per gram, so the estimated value of the seized drugs was Rp2.6 billion or more.
