"The striking employees represent PT Pos employees and retirees throughout Indonesia," said Gibson S Nababan, a spokesman of PT Pos Indonesia`s Labor Union (SPPI).Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Around 5,000 employees of the Indonesian postal service provider, PT Pos Indonesia, will be on strike from June 28-30, 2012.
"The striking employees represent PT Pos employees and retirees throughout Indonesia," said Gibson S Nababan, a spokesman of PT Pos Indonesia`s Labor Union (SPPI), here on Thursday.
The employees have made six demands to the management.
First, the retirement allowance for company employees must be at least the same as that of civil servants. Currently, the allowance for company retirees is, on average, only 29 percent of what retired civil servants get.
Second, the employees want a change in their salary structure, from the current basic salary of 15 percent of their total take-home pay to 75 percent.
Third, the management must abolish the outsourcing scheme, because around 30 percent of its employees at present are employed under the scheme.
Fourth, the management must ensure occupational safety for the employees. Within less than a year, five employees have been killed at work.
The employees are also demanding that the company cover their medical costs, stop the present organisational restructuring and go back to the previous organisational structure, because the new structure is inefficient and fails to improve the employees` welfare.
"The national strike is particularly being held in PT Pos Indonesia`s head office, the communication and information ministry, and the state enterprise ministry in Jakarta," Gibson said.
The 5,000 strikers are representing PT Pos Indonesia`s employees and retirees in Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, Bekasi, Banten, West Java, Central Java, Yogyakarta, East Java, North Sumatra, Aceh, West Sumatra, Riau, South Sumatra, Bangka Belitung, Bali, East and West Nusa Tenggara, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Maluku and Papua.
