"The economic condition in Indonesia cannot be seen apart from the situation in other countries, and concrete action and decisions need to be taken both by the central government and regional administrations," the Vice President said.
Pontianak, W Kalimantan (ANTARA News) - Vice President Boediono said the current economic crisis in this part of the world may be longer than a similar crisis in 2008, and all circles in Indonesia need to maintain stamina and increase inefficiency in making policies.

"The economic condition in Indonesia cannot be seen apart from the situation in other countries, and concrete action and decisions need to be taken both by the central government and regional administrations," the Vice President said when having a friendship meeting with government officials, public and religious leaders, youth leaders, military and police high ranking officers of West Kalimantan province in Pontianak Wednesday.

The occasion was also attended by People`s Housing Minister Jan Faried, Deputy Public Works Minister Hermanto Dagdag, and West Kalimantan Governor Cornelis.

The Vice President said the 2008 economic crisis raged many countries but the situation could be overcome soon, and therefore did not spread to some other countries, including Indonesia.

But this year`s crisis, he added, is not only the result of the economic and financial situation, but also the political situation.

He said Syria and Egypt are undergoing a political crisis, and Syria is now even engaged in a civil war.

Likewise in Europe where the crisis first started, there is not only an economic crisis but also political crisis.

The Vice President said at present almost all countries in the world are undergoing a slowing down trend including those which had been including the motivators of movements such as China, India and Brazil.

Boediono believed that Indonesia is now still secure but needs to stay alert as it had some experience in the world crisis like a decline in exports of mining and farming products, and even production.

He also called for attention to the external situation, including stagnant political and security situation as well as unfavorable social stability, could serve as a lesson for Indonesia to maintain political and security stability.

"All the areas in the Indonesian Unitary State are in such a situation and need to maintain the political and security situation, and all these lost control the other positive factors are difficult to reach," the Vice President said.(*)
