"Demand for plots of land to open new industries reaches 300 hectares or increases by 10-20 percent per year."Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The government is planning to develop the eastern part of Jabodetabek (Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang and Bekasi) area into a logistic area, Deputy Transportation Minister Bambang Susantono said.
"The area will be equipped with an airport to be integrated with a seaport to support the development of (the eastern part of Jabodetabek)," he said in a press statement issued on Friday.
The airport and seaport would be built in Karawang district and further integrated with industrial estates in Cikarang and Jababeka, he said.
The location for the construction of the airport had yet to be decided, he said adding the government was still studying it to adjust to the master plan for the acceleration and expansion of Indonesian economic development (MP3EI).
"We are still studying the matter because under the MP3EI the corridor of Java`s northern coastal area between Jakarta and Surabaya must be connected," he said.
He said Indonesia and Japan were still conducting a study to develop the Jababeka area where one of Japanese leading companies was located.
Earlier, Chief of the Indonesian Industrial Estate Developers Association (HKI) Hendra Lesmana said operators of industrial estates were overwhelmed by demand for plots of land from foreign investors to build new plants.
"Demand for plots of land to open new industries reaches 300 hectares or increases by 10-20 percent per year," he said at the opening of the association`s 6th national congress in Jakarta early this month.
The demand mostly came from Japanese, South Korean, Malaysian and Singaporean investors engaged in automotive and spare part, pharmaceutical, textile, electronic, steel processing, food and beverage industries, he said.(T.M040/Uu.S012/H-YH)
