Mataram (ANTARA News) - The Federation of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) said Lombok of West Nusatenggara will host a world meeting of SMEs in 2013.

The federation chose Lombok to host the meeting as it wants to boost development of small and medium scale business in West Nusatenggara, its chairman Suryawati said .

Small and medium enterprises could grow in West Nusatenggara as well as they do in neighboring island of Bali, Suryawati said here on Friday.

The planned meeting has been reported to the ministry of small and medium enterprises in Jakarta, he said.

Around 3,500 delegates from 200 countries will take part in the four-day meeting in September 2013.

The central government, regional administrations and private companies will pay for the cost of the meeting , Suryawati said.

He said the meeting is expected to serve as a milestone for small and medium enterprises development in West Nusatenggara especially Lombok.

The meeting is also expected to contribute to development of Lombok`s potential tourism industry .

Lombok has a new international airport and a number of luxurious hotels have been built there .

Head of the West Nusatenggara tourism office H Lalu Gita Aryadi said he was encouraged by the plan as the regional administration has an ambition to make Lombok a major tourist destination area.

Aryadi said West Nusatenggra has sought to have Lombok International Airport declared as one of entrance gates for foreign tourism into the country.

Aryadi said promotion of the status of the airport will attract international airlines to opening new routes to Lombok and draw more foreign tourists.

He said in 2011, West Nusatenggara had only 364,195 foreign visitors much less than 2.7 million foreign visitors recorded by Bali every year.
