Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesia is promoting its tourism sector through local films to Indian investors, Vice Minister for Tourism and Creative Economy Sapta Nirwandar said here on Friday.

"One of Tourism and Creative Economic Ministry`s efforts to promote Indonesian tourism sector in India is through local films," Sapta noted.

According to him, films were effective media of promoting and introducing a country`s culture and the way of life.

Sapta added that Indian community were interested in Indonesian films and the same was also true with Indonesian people to Indian movies.

"Indonesia has thousands of islands and amazing natural beauty. Bali, for example, is more famous in the world after becoming a shooting location of a well-known production house," he said.

But he noted that the contribution of film as a sub-sector of creative economy against Gross Domestic Product was relatively small.

Therefore Sapta pointed out that it should become a good opportunity for Indian film producers to invest in Indonesia.

He said the making of Indian films with the location in Indonesia was advantageous because at the same time it could promote Indonesia`s tourism.

Sapta explained that he had for several times facilitated the meetings of Indonesian and Indian film producers to explore cooperation in movie business.

"In the future we will expand cooperation with India, starting from the process of pre-production movie until the distribution of Indonesian movie in India," he said.(*)
