"Indonesia could increase its exports of that commodity to the United States."Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesia hopes to boost paper exports to the United States after that country lifted anti dumping and countervailing duties on Certain Lined Paper School Supplies (CLPSS) from Indonesia.
The US decided to cancel the sanction on August 2 after "sunset review" of dumping charges against the Indonesian paper products, the trade ministry said.
"The United States International Trade Commission (USITC) decided that imports of CLPSS from Indonesia have caused no injuries to the US industries," Ernawati, the director of trade security at the trade ministry, said here on Friday.
The USITC, however, maintained the sanctions against CLPSS products from China and India on allegedly causing potential material losses to the US industries.
Based on data at the US International Trade Commission (USITC) received in Jakarta on Friday Indonesia`s exports of CLPSS products to the United States were valued only at US$50 million in 2011.
The exports shrank from US$91.3 million in 2003, US$79.9 million in 2004 and US$98.5 million in 2005.
Ernawati said in 2006, Indonesia stopped exports of CLPSS products to the United States as a result of the high anti dumping and countervailing duties.
The slapping of Anti Dumping import and countervailing cuties on CLPSS products was petitioned by the Association of American School Paper Suppliers.
The target of the petition in Indonesia was Pabrik Tjiwi Kimia of the Sinar Mas Group, which is the largest paper producers in the country.
Ernawati said the US petitioner accused Pabrik Tjiwi Kimia and CLPSS producers from China and India of committing dumping and receiving subsidies.
After conducting investigations for several months, USITC on Sept. 25, 2006, slapped a 97.85 percent - 118.63 percent anti dumping import duties and 40.55 percent import duty on CLPSS products from the three countries - Indonesia, China and India.
However, on August 2, 2012, USITC cancelled the sanction on CLPSS products from Indonesia saying there was no evidence that imports of the products had caused injuries to the US industry.
The US authorities, however, maintained the punitive action against CLPSS products from China and India.
"With the cancellation of the anti dumping and countervailing duties, Indonesia could increase its exports of that commodity to the United States," Ernawati added.
