The bodies of the laborers were retrieved from the debris.Srinagar, Indian-controlled Kashmir (ANTARA News/Xinhua-OANA) - Four laborers including three women were buried after a wall of an under construction building collapsed and two other women were washed away by flash floods triggered by heavy rains in Indian - controlled Kashmir, police said Friday.
The laborers were working at a factory site to dig earth for raising pillars in Sarore -- Bari Brahmna area of Samba district, around 33 km southwest of Jammu city, the winter capital of Indian- controlled Kashmir.
"Preliminary investigations revealed a trench was being dug near the newly constructed building wall and due to incessant rains over last few days, rain water had accumulated in the trench which weakened the plinth of the wall resulting in its collapse," Israr Khan, a senior police official told media.
"The workers were carrying out the work when the 12 feet concrete wall collapsed on them resulting in their death on Thursday."
The bodies of the laborers were retrieved from the debris.
Police has registered a case of negligence against the contractor and management of the factory.
Those deceased laborers were identified as Promila, Ganga Mai, Savitri and Sohan Charan, the non-local laborers from Indian state of Chhatisgarh.
Meanwhile, two women were washed away in flash floods in Reasi and Mahore districts of Jammu province. The bodies of these women were later on traced by villagers and police Thursday evening.
The areas of Jammu division have been experiencing rains for the past some days resulting in triggering flash floods, which has inundated several places besides damaging houses and crops.
Kashmir has a rugged terrain. Landslides, avalanches and flash floods are often triggered from its mountains during frequent rains and heavy snowfall, the region receives.
