"It is entirely not true. It is not a blocking attempt."Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission Abraham Samad said he is convinced witnesses among police officers would duly comply with the KPK summon for questioning over the driving simulator corruption case in police`s traffic corps.
"I am convinced as they are law enforcers. I am truly convinced they certainly would fully comply with the rule," Abraham said on Thursday.
The anti graft agency already sent the summon to four middle ranking police officers to come for questioning on Aug 29.
They were members of the auction committee for the procurement of driving simulators to come for questioning on Aug 29.
However, they failed to come for some mistakes in writing the names and ranks.
"We were told by the police traffic corps yesterday that there were mistakes in the names and ranks. So we will repeat sending the summon next week," KPK spokesman Johan Budi said on Thursday.
Abraham said the police officers failed to come as they must have been prevented by some activities.
"But finally they would surely come . All witnesses among the police officers summoned by KPK would certainly come," he said confidently.
He denied that police tried to block investigation being carried out by the anti graft agency.
"It is entirely not true. It is not a blocking attempt," he said
He said former chief of police`s traffic corps Ins.Gen. Djoko Susilo, a KPK`s suspect in the case, would be summoned after the process of questioning witnesses have been completed.
Police and KPK have been in conflict over who has the right to investigate the Rp189 billion corruption case.
The law on KPK rules that other law enforcing agencies including police may not interfere in cases being handled by KPK. KPK is even authorized to take over corruption cases from other law enforcing agencies.
Police already has a list of their own suspects even have arrested four of them including Djoko`s former deputy Brig. Gen. Didik Purnomo. Djoko, the main KPK`s suspect, however, is not included in the list.
The police move drew sharp criticism with observers accusing police of trying to prevent more officers being dragged into the case.
Police said it would not hand over to KPK their suspects, three of whom are also in KPK`s list of suspects.
On Thursday, Abraham said there would be coordination between KPK and police in investigating the three suspects included in the list of both police and KPK.
"As for the three suspects, there seem to be body language indicating mutual understanding but not truly mentioned," he said.
