We want the government to abolish the outsourcing system, cheap wages and corruption...Tanjungpinang, Riau Islands (ANTARA News) - Thousands of workers in Riau Island stated they will conduct a strike if the government doesn`t respond to their demand, a source said.
"We want the government to abolish the outsourcing system, cheap wages and corruption," Chairman of Riau islands` Indonesian Metal Workers Federation (FSPMI) Otong Sutisna said here on Sunday.
He said FSPMI demands the government to be firm in implementing Regulation Number 13/2003 about employment status especially the article related to the outsourcing system. Otong mentioned thousands of workers in Riau island are still working under the outsourcing system.
Otong explained the strike will be done nationally next September 14 in 14 provinces. As in Riau islands itself, he added, the strike will be centered in Batam, Bintan and Karimun area. About 20,000 workers are expected to join the strike.
