Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Jakarta Metropolitan Police (Polda Metro Jaya) have confirmed that Muhammad Toriq, a 30-year-old man who has been absconding ever since the police found a half-finished home-made bomb at a house in Tambora, West Jakarta, on Wednesday afternoon (September 6), is a terrorist.

"We ascertained it after we found the explosive materials," Jakarta Police Spokesperson Senior Commissioner Rikwanto stated here on Thursday morning.

He said the Jakarta Police Laboratory and Forensic officers found papers with guidelines to make a bomb, along with three boxes of plastic bottles, sticking plasters, two bottles of nail, food cans, batteries, cell phone chargers, PVC pipes and cables - all of which have been confiscated by the police for further investigation.

The Jakarta Police and the Special Detachments (Densus) 88 counterterrorism unit had been tracking Toriq to find out whether he was involved with any terrorist network.

On Wednesday afternoon, at around 2.30 pm, residents of Jl. Teratai in Jembatan Lima, Tambora saw smoke coming out of a house owned by Toriq`s mother, Iyot.

When some of them entered the house, they found the smoke was coming out of an object that seemed like a bomb.

Toriq, who has been unemployed, fled from the spot soon after his neighbours entered the house to find the source of the smoke.

The police have arrested Iyot, along with Toriq`s wife, Yati, and his child. (*)
