Magelang (ANTARA News) - PT Bank Internasional Indonesia Tbk (BII) through its corporate social responsibility (CSR) program "BII Berbagi" completed its rehabilitation program for community living surround Mount Merapi.

BII President Director, Dato` Khairussaleh Ramli, handed over the newly built seven clean water instalations to Mount Merapi community through Theodorus, Lead Coordinator of Van Lith Care, BII`s partner responsible for the implementation of the program.

The ceremony of the handover was witnessed by beneficiary communities at Merapi Monitoring Post, Babadan, Magelang, Central Java, Indonesia.

In the same location, members of BII Board of Directors, Commissioners and employees also planted trees, as the kick of the plant of 10 thousand trees in the slopes of Mount Merapi.

By the availability of clean water, BII further complemented the program by donating farming tools such as tractor, corn grinding machine, padi thresner machine, grass trasher, and water pump to be used by seven beneficiary villages under coordination of Van Lith Care.

BII built clean water infrastructures in seven villages in Muntilan which includes Grogol, Pucanganom, Dadapan, Semen, Tempel, Gendelan and Trayem whereby clean water can be utilized by more than 1,360 citizens.

Last year, BII Merapi Rehabilitation Program had also built three clean water infrastructures that can be utilized by more than 450 citizens in three villages in Muntilan sub districts, including Badung, Sempon and Wates.

BII also rehabilitated irigation system and road infrastructures in several villages in Magelang, reforestation and handed over communication tools to support emergency to volunteers of Kompag Merapi.

"Through Merapi Rehabilitation Program, BII integratedly carried out both rehabilitation of environment and community development to maximize the positive impacts and help improving the living standard of communites in the Mount Merapi area," said Khairussaleh.

"The rehabilitation program is in line with the corporate mission of Humanizing Financial Service whereby we have and will always be in the heart of community, especially related to the environment and community development," he added.

In line with our mission in Humanizing Financial Services, BII always seeks partnerships with community to support education, promote healthy life and community development through CSR BII Berbagi program.

BII has put special attention to Yogyakarta through its CR programs which have been initiated since 2008. In Yogyakarta, BII Berbagi has supported scholarship to 175 students of University of Gadjah Mada (UGM) for the last four year, rebuilt state elementary schools SDN Kebon Agung in Sleman and SDN Cepoko Jajar in Piyungan, Bantul which were badly hit by earthquake, actively took part in emergency program in Mt. Merapi eruption in Muntilan, Klaten and Kaliurang in 2011 and in 2012 supported micro financing facilities to women enterpreneurs as part of women empowerment through Mitra Dhuafa cooperative (Komida) in Kulon Progo.
