Mukomuko, Bengkulu (ANTARA News) - At least 180 houses were flooded in the Pondok Batu village of the Mukomuko District on Monday, following incessant heavy rains on Saturday and Sunday.

A total of 210 families were affected by the floods, said Syahrinal, Pondok Batu's Village Chief, on Monday.

The height of the flood waters reached between 30cm and 60cm. Iskandar, head of the Mukomuko disaster mitigation office, said that flooding occurred because the Selegan River started overflowing, following heavy rains on Saturday and Sunday.

"It`s a bright day now, but the flood victims are waiting for the water level to subside so that they can clean their houses," he said.

The local authorities have distributed relief aid comprising rice, noodles and canned food to the flood victims.

Meanwhile, floods and landslides have been reported in several provinces across Indonesia, including West Sulawesi, West Java, North Sumatra, Riau, Bengkulu, Jakarta and Banten.

In early November 2012, in the Mamasa district, West Sulawesi, flash floods and landslides hit the East Batangharu village and killed 14 people. Three people also went missing.

In West Java, floods and landslides claimed two lives in the Bandung district on November 18. Meanwhile, in Tasik Malaya, West Java, a landslide wreaked havoc on the Cigalontang road, making the Tasikmalaya district inaccessible.
