Jakarta (ANTARA News) The Foreign Affairs Ministry has said there were no Indonesian citizens among the victims of the Friday shootings at a primary school in Newton, Connecticut, US.

"So far, no Indonesian citizens have fallen victim in the incident that killed 27 people," Foreign Affairs Ministry`s director of information and media PLE Priatna said here in press statement released on Saturday.

He mentioned that 27 people have died, including 20 children aged 5-10 years, in a horrifying shooting that occurred on Friday at 09:41 local time.

Priatna said that the Indonesian general consulate in New York has contacted Indonesian citizens living in the region near the location of the shootings.

"Fortunately, no Indonesian citizens have fallen victim there," he said.

He added that that the government, through the Indonesian consulate general in New York, will continue monitoring developments following the shootings being blamed on Adam Laza.

Previously, the CNN television network reported that Laza is a father of a student at Sandy Hook primary school.

Newton is located about 70 kilometers southwest of Hartford and 130 kilometers northeast of New York City. The city's population is 27,000 people.

There were a number of shootings during 2012, including a recent shooting that left two people dead last Tuesday (Dec 11) at a shopping mall in the state of Oregon.

Another shooting occurred at a movie theatre showing "The Dark Knight Rises" film, which killed 12 people and injured 50 others.
