Chief of Purbalingga police Adj. Sr. Comr. Ferdy Sambo confirmed that a student of a traditional Islamic boarding school at Gemuruh, at the sub-district of Purbalingga had been arrested by Densus 88.
"But we have not been informed of the charge against him. We better wait for an official announcement by the police headquarters," Ferdy said here on Sunday.
The man was arrested by Densus 88, he said, adding local police were not involved in the arrest.
Witness said the name of the man is Ali Zaenal Abidin (20), a student of the Islamic boarding school of Pondok Pesantren Al Suchry.
Ali was nabbed when he was together with a number of friends shopping for vegetables at a small traditional market by a group of men using a Kijang Inoval car at 07.00 local time.
"The incident was so quick. They pointed pistols at Ali and then dragged him to the car," a vegetable seller said.
The four friends of Ali quickly returned to the boarding school, which is only 500 meters away, and using motorcycles they drove to the Purbalingga police office to report the incident.
The head of the Al Suchry boarding school, Ahmad Toha Husein, said Ali Zaenal Abidin hailed from Ngruki, Sukoharjo, and he was only two months becoming student at the school.
"Ali is a clever student and during his stay here he never showed suspicious behaviors. We are shocked that he had to deal with Densus 88," Ahmad Toha said.
He said he has informed Ali`s family in Ngruki about what had happened to Ali.
The boarding school, which is owned by Yayasan Istiqomah Sambas has only 20 students who pay no fee or cost.
They are to study for two years to become a propagator.
