"The power plant could be operational early 2014."
Timika (ANTARA News) - PT Rekadaya has been awarded by state electricity company PLN the contract to build a small steam powered electric plant in Timika, Papua.

Manager of PT PLN branch in Timika Semuel Farwas told ANTARA news agency the ground breaking ceremony would take place on Dec. 28 in the project site in the village of Ayuka.

Currently PT Rekadaya is in the process of holding auction to handle the construction of the 4x7 megawatt power plant.

"We hope construction of the project could start immediately the the power plant could be operational early 2014," Samuel said here on Monday.

A 16-hectare plot of land for the project has been available granted by the Mimika district administration early this year, he said.

Implementation of the project has been delayed since 2007. The power plant is expected to save the Mimika district from shortage in power supply in the next 10 years.

The power plant will contribute to industrial development in Mimika and neighboring areas, Samuel said. (Uu.AS/H-ASG/O001)
