"Jerusalem (ANTARA News) - Days after a mysterious blast levelled a Hezbollah weapons warehouse in southern Lebanon which reportedly contained long-range missiles, Israel's Air Force (IAF) chief warned Wednesday that the Shiite militant group was ready for battle.
On Monday, Hezbollah personnel quickly cordoned off the site in the wake of the explosion.
"Anyone who goes to sleep with rockets needs to understand that it is a very unsafe place," Maj-Gen Amir Eshel said, according to Israel Radio.
Israeli military analysts believe that Hezbollah has more than 50,000 rockets of varying types and ranges hidden in villages, farms and other sites throughout areas adjoining Lebanon`s southern border.
While Hezbollah immediately claimed Israel is behind the explosion which echoed across the border in northern Israel, officials here have so far remained mum on the event which destroyed rockets the Lebanese militant group had threatened to fire at targets deep within Israel.
In October, four Syrians were killed in another mysterious blast which levelled another weapons site in the town of Baalbek.
Turning to the chaotic situation in neighboring Syria and the possible spread of its chemical and biological weapons, Eshel said Damascus` dissolution was a foregone conclusion, and that the IAF was prepared for numerous the day after scenarios in the wake of Syria's demise, including the need to react to the use of non-conventional weapons.
