Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian Integrated Team will send a letter to the Singaporean government, seeking cooperation in tracking down corruption convict Djoko Tjandra.

"Soon there will be a joint effort with the Singaporean government," said Deputy Attorney General Darmono, who is leading the team formed to hunt down corruption convicts, here on Friday.

Earlier, in February this year, Djoko was reported to be living in Papua New Guinea after being granted citizenship there. However, after the Indonesian Integrated Team communicated with the Papua New Guinea government and made efforts to repatriate Djoko from the country, the fugitive has been reportedly spending more time in Singapore.

"We do not know when the official letter will reach the Singaporean government, but the joint efforts will soon begin," Darmono stated.

Indonesian international law expert Hikmahanto Juwana said the Indonesian Integrated Team should urge the Singaporean government to help repatriate Djoko, who has caused the state losses of Rp546 billion.

Meanwhile, the Papua New Guinea government has agreed to establish an extradition treaty with Indonesia, which is expected to come into effect from next month.

"The other option is to seek deportation of Djoko from Papua New Guinea on grounds that he violated immigration rules while applying for citizenship there," Darmono noted.

"If there is any evidence of immigration violation, Djoko could soon be deported," he said.

Djoko was sentenced to two years in jail in connection with a Bank Bali cessie case.

The former director of Era Giat Prima was also fined Rp15 million, while the funds (worth Rp546 billion) in Bank Bali were confiscated by the state.

He left Indonesia for Port Moresby on June 10, 2009 a day before the Supreme Court declared him guilty.

In May this year, it was reported that Djoko had switched his citizenship to Papua New Guinea by providing false information.
