"There are a number of lessons that we can learn from the Chinese," said Ansari Yamamah, a political analyst at the State Islamic Institute (IAIN), North Sumatra, on Thursday.
The first lesson is that the Chinese are patriotic. They have immense respect for people who instil nationalistic ideologies into the Chinese.
Since the Chinese respect their country, they abide by all the policies implemented by the government.
When China came up with a policy restricting the number of children in each household, the Chinese respected the government's decision.
"The Chinese listen to the government because the government is firm. In addition, they believe that the government is concerned about the welfare of the Chinese," he said.
In China, corrupt government officials are given death sentence.
Since the government is firm and has strict policies, the Chinese tend to abide by the law.
"Since China is a communist country, its laws and policies can be authoritative in nature," he said.
We should learn to respect people's attitudes towards political parties.
The Chinese ensure that government officials pay attention to the needs of the public.
He said by forcing government officials to think about public welfare, entrepreneurial thinking is encouraged.
The Chinese use public facilities with care. The Chinese believe in living in harmony and in respecting public infrastructure.
"The Chinese keep public facilities clean because they have respect for public infrastructure," he said.
Indonesia can learn a number of lessons from China.
According to Ansari, construction in Shanghai began with the development of underground facilities, drainage systems and transportation. Construction in the city was completed in 15 years.
"There is no `patchwork` in China's development. We should learn from them," he said.
