Secretary of the South Sumatra branch of the association of rubber companies (Gapkindo) Awie Aman said the price of processed rubber with 90 percent quality had tended to fluctuate.
On January 7, the price was Rp26,467 per kg, but a few days later the price dropped to Rp25,968 per kg, Awie said here on Tuesday.
The price of processed rubber on Jan. 11 rose to Rp26,057 per kg, but on Tuesday the price declined to Rp25,833 per, he said.
"The price has gone up and down since Jan. 7, " he added.
The price of rubber in the past several months has followed the trend in international market as most of the production has been exported.
South Sumatra which has more than ten rubber processing factories exports 60,000-70,000 tons of processed rubber per month.
Rubber producing areas in South Sumatra include the regencies of Muaraenim, Lahat, Banyuasin, Musibanyuasin, Ogan Komering Ilir, Ogan Komering Ulu, Musirawas, Kota Pagaralam and Kota Prabumulih.
The province has more than 1 million hectares of rubber plantations, owned by private companies both local and foreign investors and farmers.
