Jakarta (ANTARA News) - United Kingdom Secretary of State for Defence Philip Hammond MP is scheduled to arrive in Indonesia on Tuesday for a visit until Wednesday, January 16, 2013.

A press statement from British Embassy on Monday said that during the visit Hammond would meet with Indonesian Defence Minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro and Foreign Affairs Minister Marty Natalegawa.

The statement said that the visit would reinforce the strong relationship established during the State Visit by President Yudhoyono to the UK in November and the visit by Prime Minister David Cameron to Indonesia in April last year.

Hammond`s meeting with Minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro, several government officials and representatives of the Indonesian Armed Forces will build on the recently signed Defence MOU between the UK and Indonesia.

"The visit will clearly demonstrate UK commitment to strengthen defence links with Indonesia. The success of the recent State Visit made by President Yudhoyono to the UK and Prime Minister David Cameron to Indonesia in April last year has cemented cooperation between the UK and Indonesia in various sectors including defence cooperation," British Ambassador to Indonesia Mark Canning said in the statement.

Canning noted that as the largest democracy in the region, and a nation which is playing a constructive and important role in regional security, Indonesia remains an important partner for the UK.

"This visit is a further evidence of our relationship with Indonesia going from strength to strength," Canning said.

Hammond is scheduled to meet with Indonesian Defence Minister Purnomo Yudgiantoro to deliver a speech and then to hold a joint press conference at Purnomo`s office on Wednesday. (*)
