"The PMI has prepared 200 volunteers since the rain began."
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) for Jakarta deployed 200 volunteers to help Jakarta residents in the face of floods that took place in various parts of the capital city.

"The PMI has prepared 200 volunteers since the rain began at 1 pm to stay on alert at flood-prone points for helping residents to evacuate," Arifin Muh Hadi, Head of Disaster Mitigation Division of PMI said here on Tuesday.

The volunteers consisted of those grouped in volunteer crops (KSR), people-based disaster alertness (Sibat), PMI staffers and officers.

West Jakarta PMI office responded to the floods with deploying personnel from the Sibat and volunteer groups to carry out evacuation, build tents, public kitchens for 1,300 victims of floods in Rawa Buaya village.

The West Jakarta PMI branch also provided health service in cooperation with Cengkareng healthcare center for victims of floods who evacuated in Rawa Buaya.

The Central Jakarta PMI in the meantime, alerted 40 volunteers and assigned 12 personnel to stay at prone areas and establish public kitchens.

Public kitchens were also built in South Jakarta by the local PMI office. The public kitchen was built in the subdistricts of Cilandak, Tebet, Pancoran, Pasar Minggu and Bukit Duri.

In East Jakarta, a total of 40 volunteers were alerted to prepare food staff for dinners for about 2,000 floods victims in Kampung Melayu village, Cawang and Bidara Cina villages.

Besides preparing public kitchesn, PMI Jakarta also prepare 10 inflatable boats which were spread in five areas of the city in an efforts to anticipate follow-up floods.

It was estimated that the floods would happen Tuesday evening owing to the fact that the water level at the Katulampa sluice has reached 210 cm or reaching alert I status.
