Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Police will investigate the recent flooding at the basement of Plaza UOB on Jl MH Thamrin in Central Jakarta which left two people dead.

"We will look into whether or not a criminal offense has been committed," Head of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police Insp. Gen. Putut Eko Bayuseno said here on Monday.

Putut said the police would check the alleged ignorance on the part of the management of the building which led to the death of the two people after the Latuharhari dike collapsed.

The police were still focusing on handling flood victims in the capital, he said.

Putut, one-time chief of the West Java provincial police, asked residents who lost their relatives in the flood at the basement of the Plaza UOB to report to the nearby police station.

"Right now we have received no report of missing person in the Plaza UOB flood," he said.

Flood water submerged four basements of the Plaza UOB after the Latuharhari dike in South Jakarta collapsed last Thursday due to heavy rains in the past few days.

An evacuating team managed to rescue two of four people stranded in the basements.
