"The electric cars that will be used by APEC delegates and state guests are being prepared. The cars include those of Alphard class and buses for APEC delegates," he said.
Jakarta (ANTARA nEWS) - State Enterprises Minister Dahlan Iskan said he is ready to use locally-made electric cars for delegates to the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meeting to be held in Bali in October 2013.

"The electric cars that will be used by APEC delegates and state guests are being prepared. The cars include those of Alphard class and buses for APEC delegates," he said here on Tuesday.

He said the electric cars created by Dasep Ahmadi consist of 10 cars of Alphard class and 20 buses.

"In addition to providing transport for the APEC delegates, the electric cars will also show other nations that we are able to produce electric cars," he said.

The use of electric cars for APEC delegates is also in line with the call by the event`s organizing committee that efforts should be made to avoid using oil-fueled cars during the meeting, he said.

"The organizing committee plans to ban the use of oil-fueled cars, except if it secures a special permit. Therefore, we will prepare electric cars," he said.

Dahlan said he has assigned Dasep Ahmadi who has successfully produced electric city car dubbed Evina Ahmadi to produce electric cars of Alphard class.

He added however that a lack of lithium batteries or special batteries remained an obstacle to produce the electric cars in large numbers.

"But it doesn`t matter because domestic battery manufacturer PT Nipress is ready to supply them," he said.(*)
