Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The National Narcotics Agency (BNN) discovered a new drug after carrying out urine tests on Raffi Ahmad, an artist, and his friends, on Sunday.

"Results of the tests showed that there is a new drug in town, which has already made its way to Singapore. We are studying the new drug," said BNN Laboratory`s head of technical implementation unit, Kuswardani, on Monday.

He said the substance has not been classified as an item in Group I, II or III. He added that the substance has already made its way to Singapore.

"Law Number 35 of 2009 on narcotics does not cover the new drug. We will work closely with other agencies, including the health and trade ministries, and the drug and food control agency (BPOM)," he added.

Kuswardani said drug traffickers gave birth to this new drug to avoid confrontation with law enforcers.

"BNN is still questioning the suspects. They are not allowed to go home," he said.

BNN`s officers had arrested 17 people at Raffi Ahmad`s home in Lebak Bulus, South Jakarta, at around 4.30 am on Sunday for allegedly consuming drugs.

BNN operations deputy Police Inspector General Benny Mamoto said these items were discovered on Sunday - MDNA powder capsules (ingredient: ecstasy pills) and rolls of marijuana.

"The officers arrested 17 people after many individuals complained about the parties being held in Raffi Ahmad`s home," he added.(*)
