"We are still working on it."
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Anti-Corruption and Transparency Working Group (ACTWG) of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) is pleased with the Indonesia Anti-Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) for handling corruption cases efficiently.

"The ACTWG is happy with our work and the way we handle corruption cases," said the Vice Chairman of KPK, Adnan Pandu Praja, after a meeting with the APEC delegation (2013) at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Jakarta on Monday.

Praja said the delegation enquired about KPK`s independence and the interference from other institutions and individuals when it comes to the eradication of corruption in Indonesia.

"Some of the delegates asked if we are afraid to submit the names of corrupt officials to the Anti-Corruption Court," he said.

KPK informed the APEC delegation that they face three main obstacles in tackling corruption - independency, intervention and political will.

"The KPK was established by the government, under the presidential structure. As long as we have strong evidence, we will report the case," he said.

Praja added that the KPK is working hard to remain independent, to prevent interference from other individuals and institutions.

The KPK needs a political will from the government to strengthen the process of combating corruption in Indonesia.

"We are still working on it," he said.

The meeting with the ACTWG is entitled `Resilient Asia Pacific, Engine of Global Growth. It is being held from January 25 to February 7.
