Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) has agreed to implement the Collective Action Plan (CAP) to facilitate trade among its member countries.

The Deputy for Research and Standardization Cooperation of the National Standardization Agency of Indonesia (BNN), TAR Hanafiah, said here on Monday that the APEC members agreed on the CAP at the Sub-Committee on Standards and Conformance (SCSC) meeting.

"The CAP covers seven areas of cooperation among APEC members," he noted.

"The seven areas include good regulation practice, recognition of conformity assessment, technical infrastructure development, transparency, cooperation with special regional bodies and cooperation with APEC committee," Hanafiah stated.

He said the CAP agreement was aimed at identifying the national standard of various products, such as food, rubber and electronic goods, and aligning them with international standards.

"Indonesia has developed a standard that has aligned WTO requirements with national interests," he pointed out.

APEC countries will discuss in detail the implementation of CAP at the APEC Good Regulatory Practices conference, the date for which has yet to be fixed.

"The critical point of the CAP agreement is the common understanding among APEC countries on the need for standardization, because the membership of this organization is not binding," Hanafiah noted.

Held from January 25 through February 7, the SCSC meeting was proposed at APEC Senior Officers` Meeting (SOM) 2013, entitled "Resilient Asia Pacific, Engine of Global Growth".(*)
