Islamabad, Pakistan (ANTARA News) - Ambassador to Pakistan Burhan Muhammad said that Indonesia and Pakistan could play a greater role, shoulder to shoulder to take part in solving the problem of Afghanistan.

"The opportunities are wide open for the two countries to build a Jakarta and Islamabad shaft to overcome the terrorism and refugee issue that occur due to prolonged political turmoil in Afghanistan to be resolved soon," Burhan said here Tuesday.

According to Burhan, the political stability is needed in Afghanistan, especially before and after the withdrawal of US forces and its allies as it has been declared by US President Barack Obama some time ago.

One of the efforts that need to be done is to build mutual trust between the government of Pakistan and the ruling regime in Afghanistan on Pakistan`s involvement also to bear the burden of deployment of troops on the border to maintain the security and economic burden caused by the flow of millions of refugees into the country.

Pakistan also had to deploy about 150,000 troops to maintain security and prevent terrorist acts along the border with Afghanistan. About 7,000 Pakistani soldiers and police as well as 37,000 innocent civilians have been killed in various acts of terrorism over the last three decades.

While it is in discussions with leaders and researchers from the Institute for Policy Research Islamabad (IPRI) in Islamabad on the same day it was revealed that terrorism is a serious threat to Pakistan. Pakistan launched action to combat terrorism through a comprehensive approach through three D's concept of deterrence, development and dialogue.
