HAMBURG, Germany, February 20, 2013 (ANTARA/PRNewswire) --

With METEOplus® the Institute for Weather and Climate Communication (IWK) has launched the first app with which weather forecasts are possible for any point on the globe.

Whereas up until now it was possible to retrieve weather forecasts for only a limited number of places using mobile applications, with METEOplus® this is now possible for any place in the world. Using a map or search function at street level, precise hourly forecasts for the next ten days can be retrieved with METEOplus®. The application starts with forecasts of the weather at the requested place at the current time that are precise down to the minute. The user moves the map with his finger and is thus able to find another site easily as one-two-three. The search function enables the location of streets. Where there is a switch from beach to ocean area the application even shows the current ocean temperatures. If the user climbs "uphill" on the map, METEOplus® also displays the altitude of the site. Frank Böttcher, Director of IWK: "If you are going on a hike through the mountains, this allows you to already see what the weather will be like at the beginning of the hike before the climb."

Use of the data also for media and information services

The IWK provides other information service providers and media with an interface to the Cormoran data. In this way all providers with geoinformation applications can now also use high precision weather data worldwide for their platforms. The IWK is an independent association of weather experts with the objective of making weather information available to the public.
