The BEI index fell 11.37 points or 0.24 percent to 4,684.74 points with index of 45 most liquid stocks weakening 2.85 points or 0.35 percent to 802.81 points.
"Asian markets including BEI recorded a decline in index in the opening trade to follow significant correction in US market on post election political uncertainty in Italy," Samuel Sekuritas` analyst Benedictus Agung said.
The market players were worried that the elections will trigger political instability in Italy , Benedictus said here on Tuesday.
Political turbulence in Italy could bring about worse debt crisis in the European Union, he added.
Panin Sekuritas` analyst Purwoko Sartono said investors are expected to take the wait and see position on decision of FOMC (Federal Open Market Committee) on interest rate and policy to acquire US$85 billion worth of assets per month .
"The BEI index is forecast to hover around 4,670-4,710 points in today`s trading, Purwoko said.
Regional markets Hang Seng recorded a 0.45 percent fall in index to 22,717.63 points, Nikkei-225 posted a 1.66 decline to 11,469.19 points and Straits Times weakened 0.55 percent in index to 3,270.68 points.(*)
