Banjarmasin, S Kalimantan (ANTARA News) - Dozens of overweight policemen of Banjarmasin Sector Police Station are taking part in a mandatory weight loss program to improve their performance in carrying out their duties.

The fitness program takes place once a week, on Friday, consisting of a running exercise at 02.00 pm local time and is participated in by overweight police members.

Around 60 policemen failed to pass the ideal weight and, therefore, should take part in the fat trimming program.

"Besides to keep them healthy, this program is also aimed at maintaining their ideal weight to optimize their performance in the field," Head of Banjarmasin Sector Police Station Senior Commissioner Suharyono SH Sik said here Friday.

At their ideal weight, the policemen are expected to be more agile and confident as well as having a better physique, Suharyono said adding that the running program was also useful for detoxification.

The fitness program was mandatory for every overweight Indonesian policemen.

"There have been some of our personnel that have managed to shrink their waistline through this program," Suharyono said.

A body weighing and waistline measurement program will be conducted every week. Every police personnel who fails the test will be required to participate in the weekly fitness program.

"After the afternoon running program, they would take medical tests conducted by the Health and Medical Division of the South Kalimantan Police Office," Suharyono said.(*)
