"We want to meet UNHCR officials to ask for help. We don`t demand for citizenship, we just want to work and make a living in any country that the UNHCR recommends to us," one of the protesters Amal Mahamed (45 years old) said.
Amal who has conducted a rally in front of the UNHCR office in Jakarta since Monday explained she left her country eight months ago to work in Yaman. She then paid US$7000 to a man who promised to give her and her group jobs in Indonesia.
"But it turned out to be an false promise. We have been living in a house in Bogor for months. We rely on locals to give us food," she said.
Amal said she and her group will not leave the location in front of the UNHCR office until its officials came and talked to the group.
No comment have been received from UNHCR representatives and the Somali Embassy in Jakarta so far.(*)
