The first unit of Toyota plant in Karawang now has a production capacity of 110,000 units a year, the company`s president director Masahiro Nonami said here on Friday.
The newly-inaugurated plant located in the Karawang International Industrial City has an annual production capacity of 70,000 units, he said.
The operation of the second plant built at a cost of Rp3.3 trillion will create 1,100 new jobs, he said.
Domestic car sales hit an all time high of 1 million last year, he said. Toyota`s domestic car sales meanwhile grew consistently to 400,000 units in 2012, he said.
Takahiro Iwase, a senior managing officer of Toyota Motor Corporation in Japan said Indonesia is an important production basis.
Therefore, he added that Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia will play a significant role in contributing to Toyota`s growth on global scale in the future.
