"It was a horrible and sad event for the baby`s family."Pekanbaru, Riau (ANTARA News) - A wild monkey attacked and killed a six-month old baby in Menaming village, Rambang Sub-district, Rokan Hulu District, Riau province, on Friday (March 29), a village head said.
"It was a horrible and sad event for the baby`s family," Menaming Village Head Firdaus Daulay said here.
Firdaus said that Rahayu, the baby`s mother, left her sleeping baby alone in a swing at home on Friday and went to wash dishes at a nearby river when the monkey attacked the baby.
The sad event was first encountered when the baby`s grandmother Santi (51) went home and found her grandchild in a saddening condition.
The baby was dead with neck broken and several cuts in the head.
Santi saw a monkey was sitting on the television set with blood in its mouth.
Santi, the grandmother, screamed for help, startling neighbors. The local residents hunted the wild animal.
"Surprisingly, when the monkey was aware that it was being chased by residents, it turned back and surrendered as if it was pleading guilty," Firdaus said.
The local people shot dead the ape and burned it, he said.
