"The arguments in the lawsuit are not strong enough..."
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Central Jakarta court here on Monday rejected a citizen lawsuit against the government over severe traffic congestion in the capital city, Chief Judge Kasianus Telaumbanua said.

"The arguments in the lawsuit are not strong enough, hence we deny to continue this case," said the judge.

Judge Kasianus said officials at Jakarta administrative office have implemented several policies to tackle the situation. "Though the policy has not yet satisfied the plaintiffs, the defendants have evidently made efforts to tackle the traffic jam," he said.

Earlier, two Jakartans namely Agustinus Dawarja and Ngurah Anditya Ari Firnanda filed a citizen lawsuit against President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, officials at the administrative office of Jakarta and lawmakers sitting in the regional legislative council.

The two said traffic jam in Jakarta has caused material losses to the citizen. They demand related parties to soon tackle the problem.

In respond to the Monday`s verdict, lawyer of the two citizens Yohanes Tangur expressed disappointment because the judge did not consider indications that the local government has been negligent in implementing the policy to tackle the traffic jam issue.
