Thousands of labors and civilians coming from various occupations will take part in rally on May 1.
Palembang, South Sumatra (ANTARA News) - Thousands of labors in South Sumatra to commemorate "Mayday" on May 1, 2013 by rejecting the outsource recruitment system and calling for wage hikes.

"Thousands of labors and civilians coming from various occupations will take part in rally on May 1," said Public Relations of the South Sumatra Labors and Civilians United Association Talbi Munandar here on Tuesday.

Demonstrators will urge the government to implement the Article 33 of the Indonesian Constitution 1945 (UUD) about economy resources and democracy.

According to him, several non-governmental organizations (NGOs) which also join the rally on Wednesday, The NGOs include Kasbi, Civilians Democracy Party, and the Independent Journalist Alliance (AJI) of Palembang.

Talbi said the participants will issue joint statement and holding banners as well as posters.

"The participants will gather at Air Mancur Square at 09 am local time and will conduct long march to the South Sumatra Governor`s Office," Talbi said adding that the participants will also call for the improvement of journalists` welfare.

He asked the media leaders to clarify correspondent and contributor status in media companies by implementing the Article 33 of the Indonesian Constitution 1945 (UUD).

Chairman of Palembang AJI Darwin Syarkowi assumed journalists in South Sumatra and Indonesia are welfare yet.

"We are doing our efforts to improve the welfare of Indonesian journalists by making working relation status of news contributors clear," Darwin said.
