Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Thousands of workers and members of several elements of labor organization began to pack the Hotel Indonesia roundabout in Central Jakarta, in commemoration of Labor Day (Mayday) on Wednesday.

Traveling on a number of buses from Bekasi and Karawang, West Java, the workers arrived at the Hotel Indonesia roundabout with various rally props such as banners and flags of their labor organizations.

The arrival of these workers also caused traffic jam along the capital city`s main road Jalan Sudirman from the Semanggi towards the Hotel Indonesia roundabout.

The workers group also delivers their demand such as the enforcement of the minimum wage in 2013 and rejecting outsourcing labor services at a number of occupations.

One of the Presidents of the Indonesian Labor Workers Council (MPBI), Said Iqbal said that the International Labor Day commemoration action was attended by about 150,000 people from Jabodetabeka, Jakarta and greater area.

"According to the plan, a million workers from 22 Indonesian provinces would participate in commemorating MayDay," said Iqbal.

Meanwhile, the Jakarta Metro police chief, Inspector General of Police Putut Eko Bayuseno said that as many as 25,000 security personnel of the Police, Army and the Provincial Government of DKI Jakarta elements were deployed to secure a Mayday act. (*)
