"About 30,000 workers from three labor unions in Batam will rally today," Coordinator for Batam`s branch of Indonesian Metal Workers Federation (FSPMI) Suprapto said.
Batam, Riau island (ANTARA News) - Thousands of labors are to hold rally in front of provincial office area here on Wednesday to commemorate May Day.

According to ANTARA`s observation, the labors are marching from Batamindo industrial area while carrying posters containing demand to the government to erase cheap payment system for labors and accelerate the implementation of Social Security Providers (BPJS) law by 2014.

"About 30,000 workers from three labor unions in Batam will rally today," Coordinator for Batam`s branch of Indonesian Metal Workers Federation (FSPMI) Suprapto said here on Wednesday.

He noted there are five points which will be delivered during the Wednesday rally namely rejection towards plan to increase fuel price, demand the government to give health insurance for all Indonesians, refuse cheap payment for labors, erase outsourcing system and refuse the government`s plan to pass a regulation about mass organization.

Meanwhile Batam`s mayor Rudi calls on protesters to hold a peaceful rally.

Earlier Riau island`s Chief of Police AKBP Hartono said he will deploy 1,122 personnel to guard the May Day rally in Riau island province where 500 of them will be posted in Batam.(*)
