Beijing (ANTARA News/Xinhua-OANA) - A 7.6-magnitude quake struck in the sea south of Tonga at 1:19 a.m. Friday Beijing Time, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center.

The epicenter, with a depth of 150 km, was monitored at 23.0 degrees south latitude and 177.1 degrees west longitude, the center said.

Meanwhile an earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale also jolted southern Iran at 2244 GMT on Thursday ( 0644 Beijing Time on Friday), the U.S. Geological Survey said.

The epicenter, with a depth of 9.80 km, was initially determined to be at 27.2095 degrees north latitude and 53.6110 degrees east longitude.(*)
